A group of students from Internado National Femenino ended classes and joined the growing number of schools going on strike to protest the governments in action . Josefa Vilches who is in 2nd medio says , "since 2006 and the Concentaration government in Chile signed a education deal nothing has changed since then". The President (Bachelete) made a comment about education during her May 21st speech and becuase of the strikes and protest it put pressure on the government and now its in the congress but they do not believe in the Minister of Education (Jimenez). "The strikes will continue until they change the law".
They marched on Friday from their school to the marches downtown near Plaza Italia with a large group Carinineros and the special riot squad waiting . The peaceful marched ended as usual with tear gas and armed guards arresting anyone causing havic. Josefa and her group left before things got out of hand and was upset that even peaceful organized marches always end violently. " The press always show only the protest becuase thats what gets the news headlines but it takes away from the message of what we are fighting for because of a few . I can say there are infiltrators in these marches and other people who are not part of our fight but get involved as an excuse to fight with Paco's.
Monday country wide strike is calling on all students and teachers to protest the LOCE and LGE laws and plans to be bigger than the last one.
